Mountains Craft Market
Every 3rd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the month the Blackheath RSL hosts the Mountains Craft Market. From 10am to 2pm the markets feature a myriad of local art, craft and food stalls. Sample foods like locally grown olives and honey or try some homemade fudge, chutneys and cakes. Paintings, handmade jewelry and photography of the mountains are some examples of the local arts and crafts on display. All proceeds from the markets go to the Blue Mountains Cancer Help to help locals diagnosed with cancer, so you’ll also be helping out community members in need. Check out the details here.
Springwood Growers Market
Love getting the freshest produce straight from farmers and growers? These markets are the event for you. On the 4th Sunday of each month 8:30am – 12:30pm at the Springwood Hub, the Springwood Growers Market allows local producers to present their finest fare. Wander through farmer’s stalls with seasonal fruits, vegetables and meats. See the best smallgoods, wines, oils, cheeses and baked goods the Blue Mountains area has to offer. Get in early, have a coffee and enjoy some breakfast while strolling through the stalls of local goodness.
Mountain Explorers
Want to get the kids out and about, while exploring nature. The Mountain Explorers – Children’s self-guided trail will have them going on an adventure, learning about nature and maybe even winning a prize. In the Blue Mountains Botanical Garden, until the 28th February, kids can follow the guided trail. For $6 at the information desk they can pick up the kit. It takes them to five different stops with different activities. Each stop reveals something about the different flora in the gardens and will help them solve a puzzle that wins them a prize at the end.
Blue Mountains Music Festival
Enjoy a music festival, but don’t want to be in a crowd of twenty-thousand sweaty teenagers? The Blue Mountains Music Festival is a more relaxed music festival than some of the big ones in Sydney. It celebrating blues, roots and folk music over three days from March 17-19. A lazy wander from the Katoomba railway station, as well as music, the festival will have craft and food stalls and workshops and kid’s entertainment too. Already confirmed acts include Paul Kelly and The Waifs. Tickets are on sale here.
Winter Magic
A mainstay of the Blue Mountains event calendar is the annual Winter Magic Festival in Katoomba. For one day, on the 24th June, the main street of Katoomba is shut to traffic and replaced with a slew of performers. Musicians, poets, and dancers will be performing throughout the day. There are stalls and markets and a heritage steam locomotive providing transport to and from the festival. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy the Grand Parade where performers, puppets and props make their way down the street in a colourful display. Finish the night by huddling for warmth and watching the fireworks.
