Twilight Markets
Wollongong is a beautiful part of the coast and Flagstaff Hill is a great vantage point for gazing out to the ocean. From October through till March this scenic spot hosts the Twilight Markets. Open on the first Friday of each month the Twilight Markets are an open-air foodie paradise with a view of the sea. Stalls provide a range of the best local food and beverages to enjoy. Grab the family or some friends, a picnic blanket and find something delicious to enjoy for dinner while taking in the spectacular view.
Honk! Oz
Keen for dancing in the street? From January 19-21, the Honk! Oz festival will liven up the streets of Wollongong with a collection of street bands performing. Taking inspiration from the festival of the same name held in Boston, Honk! OZ is a colourful display of brass band music styles from around the world. Performers aren’t paid, they join the festival for the love of the music and to instigate that same musical love in their audience. The three days culminates in a special performance of a piece composed just for the festival and featuring over 100 musicians. It’s sure to make for a lively weekend.
Eat Street on Crown
Another great spot to enjoy all the fine foods that the Wollongong area has to offer is Eat Street Markets on the Crown Mall. Open every Thursday from 5:00PM – 9:00 PM, the market organisers look to promote healthy eating of organic or minimally processed food (without sacrificing on flavour). Local chefs and cooks use seasonal ingredients to create Australian favourites, internationally inspired dishes and divine desserts. Once you’ve made your culinary choice, head to one of the ‘chill out zones’ to enjoy your meal while listening to one of the local music acts that play at the markets. Beer, Food and Wine Festival
Do you like to savour a beer and let its malt and hop flavours linger on the pallet? Do you enjoy taking in the bouquet of a wine before indulging in the taste? You know there’s a food match for your favourite beer and wine? Enjoy all three at the Towradgi Beach Hotel Beer, Food and Wine Festival. On the 12th February, the hotel will host renowned brewers and wine producers presenting their finest creations (there’ll be cider and cocktails too if you’re interested).
